Way back in 1969 Molly Michael, longtime Keys Resident and artist opened a little frame shop in the back of her husband’s store Dixie Aluminum on Plantation Key. After a bit, her husband’s store became too confining so she moved to Hood Avenue in Tavernier. It became a gallery and grew some more and moved up to 91904 Overseas Hwy. To celebrate it’s new location the store became the “Frame Shop Gallery”

It grew and grew and became Island Decor.

Way back sometime in the 70′s Shanti Cope was born in Canada, moved to New York City and spent her youth prowling the art galleries and museums of Manhattan with her Mother. She went on to Northeastern University and earned a degree in Psychology. Thus armed she was well equipped to work in the family furniture and interior design business. She continued her education by attending and graduating from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan with a degree in Interior Design.

When the family decided to retire, Shanti moved to “corporate America” and had a very successful career designing point of sale material and displays for some of the nation’s largest companies.

Then there was that magical day when Shanti and her new husband, Craig, decided life could be better in the Keys. They began searching for a new opportunity and change in life style in this wonderful place. She discovered and purchased Island Décor bringing together her passion for interior design and the creative development process. Shanti’s diverse background provides her the ability to help you select the perfect piece of art, custom framing project or home décor to meet any design style.
